This policy explains how the SafeMom mobile app collects, uses, and protects your information. It applies to the SafeMom app on iOS and Android. (Our website waitlist is covered by a separate notice.)
Account information (name, email, phone number, profile photo, bio); child information you choose to add; emergency contacts you type in; precise location (including in the background when you enable it); content you create (safety reports, messages, event RSVPs, check-ins); device push tokens; and basic app activity and diagnostics.
Some of what we collect is considered sensitive personal information under privacy laws such as the California Privacy Rights Act: your precise geolocation, and information about your children that you choose to add. We use this information only to provide the safety features described in this policy. We do not sell it, do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and do not use it to infer characteristics about you.
To run the safety features you use: Emergency SOS with live location, event check-in reminders, neighborhood safety alerts, and group coordination. Background location powers emergency alerts and check-in reminders even when the app is closed.
Routine background location is kept in a rolling 48-hour window and then automatically deleted. Location trails recorded during an active emergency are kept for 30 days after the emergency is resolved, then deleted. Your account data is deleted when you delete your account.
Your location and safety data are shared only with members of the groups you choose, according to your settings. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with data brokers, and we do not use it for advertising.
We use a small number of service providers (processors) to operate the app, each under contract and only to provide their service to us:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a user or the public.
You choose when to share your location, and you can turn background location off in Settings at any time.
You have the right to:
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. We will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. We respond to verified requests within the time required by applicable law.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access to production data is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
SafeMom is for adults (18+). "Child information" is data a parent optionally adds about their own children; children are not users of the app, and we never knowingly collect information directly from a child. You can edit or remove child information at any time in your profile, and deleting your account removes it entirely.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of SafeMom after the effective date means the updated policy applies.
